Lakeshore Lodge Day- Friends of Sandbanks

At Sandbanks Provincial Park

Date:  Wednesday August 17, 2016

Location:  Sandbanks Provincial Park, Lakeshore Lodge Day Use Area

Time:  12:00 pm till 5:00 pm

Join us for this popular annual 1890’s style picnic, with games, lemonade and  corn at the site of the old Lakeshore Lodge on West Point.

This event is organized by the Friends of Sandbanks.

Park Office: (613) 393-3319

Visit the Friends site at friendsofsandbanks.org

lakeshore-lodge-day 2015
If you plan to come to the County during this week, then attending the Lakeshore Lodge Day is the “must” day to visit.

For many years, the Park has sponsored this family-fun day, based on activities that happened in the 1890’s at the site of the former Lakeshore Lodge. Park staff dress in period garb, and games for all ages are encouraged!

Three-legged races, egg-and-spoon races, nail-hammering, tug-o-wars and more, are just a few of the activities that recreate the activities of tourists who spent their holidays at the “coolest spot” in Prince Edward County almost a century ago at the Lakeshore Lodge.

Local farm-fresh corn and lemonade are on offer at great prices, and Sandbanks Park staff dress and act the 1890’s part!

Volunteers from the Friends of Sandbanks and the Prince Edward County Museums will be present… please feel free to ask them anything about the amazing history of the area!

The Friends of Sandbanks maintain the Visitor Shop, near the Park main office and on the way into the Outlet Beach, with a wonderful selection of both educational publications and souvenir items, sales of which support our many charitable Park activities.

Our artists and artisans cover a broad range of mediums; many are now in national and international collections. The Prince Edward County Studio Tour gives you behind-the-scenes access to some of the most interesting artists in Ontario.

Wassail In The County

November 19, 2016 to December 04, 2016

WASSAIL

Join Prince Edward County’s winemakers for mulled wines, comfort foods and festive good cheer.

Ontario’s most unique wine celebration, Wassail pays tribute to the age old tradition of celebrating the harvest before the arrival of winter. Merrymakers would travel from house to house singing, feasting and, of course, quenching their thirst with local grog.

In Prince Edward County, after harvest we rush to bury the vines to withstand the cold winter. Once the job is done, it’s time to party and everyone is invited!

During the last two weekends in November and the first weekend of December, this modern version of Wassail is a fun time to visit wineries and join in the festivities. Arrive singing a seasonal tune and be treated to free tastes of mulled wine, plus comfort foods and sweet treats! Cross wine-lovers off your list with gifts of wine or wine-related items, or shop for unique, local and handmade crafts and other gifts.
